Pretty Tasty

Sadly, No! notes that John Lydon, a.k.a. Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols, is now hawking butter:

Isn’t this one of the signs of the apocalypse?

MBG–Get. off. your. butt. and. find. new. stuff. yourself. Don’t embody Sarah Palin’s idea of bloggers too much now.

2nd: John Lydon has been selling out all his life. Let us not forget that The Sex Pistols were a band hatched out of a fashion shop run by Malcolm McLaren. They were created, like McLaren’s previous work with the NY Dolls, to be a product. It was actually quite progressive. Dress a band a certain way, put them in certain clubs, have them act a certain way and create a rock “mythos” about them. The Sex Pistols were never about anarchy or anti-capitalism. It was all just a gimmick to try and gain attention and in turn make some cash. If there ever was a moment in Lydon’s life where he was considered to contain some sort of artistic integrity it would have to be his time with Public Image Limited.

Lydon’s numerous BBC television shows, Sex Pistol revivals and even an appearance on Judge Judy exhibit that Lydon has always been willing to do whatever it takes to make a little extra cash. This butter commercial shouldn’t surprise anyone.

I feel like I’m usually on my butt when my google reader brings me the new things, and, y’know, sorry for being dismissive, I guess. I’m just saying that posts on things that are so old (and without anything like a new take on it) are filler, it doesn’t help me or the site. That said, pajamas are delightful.

[...] And, though this particular kind of disappointment/betrayal is by no means unprecedented–I’m still pretty sad about this. [...]
