Long Live The American Conservative
By Daniel Strauss - Nov 11th, 2008 at 5:45 pmFollowing up on Ned’s post , a healthy democracy doesn’t need a National Review full of one-sided closeminded biased opinion, bereft of any kind of reasonable counter argument. It does need something a bit more like The American Conservative magazine.
I was very impressed with its election issue which offered a range of different conservatives’ voting decisions. Francis Fukuyama, for example, decided to vote for Obama and gave a surprising yet reasonable argument for doing this. This is the kind of conservative magazine that’s healthy for democracy!
Now, there’s plenty I don’t like about The American Conservative —as a publication of the paleoconservative persuasion I’m not crazy about its anti-immigration stances but the magazine still acts as a conduit for varying views within conservatism. That’s far more valuable than anything in National Review ’s pages.
