New Data on LGBT Hate Crimes
By Tanya Paperny - Oct 29th, 2008 at 3:39 pmFollowing up on my last post, the FBI’s recently released hate crime data confirm that while hate crimes were down overall for 2007, anti-gay crimes increased about 6 percent.
“Racial bias remained the most common motive, accounting for more than half of all reported hate crimes. Blacks, Jews and gays were the most frequent victims of hate crimes, the report found.”
I wonder, how do they categorize a gay black Jew?
Also, check out this timeline of LGBT hate crimes, which has the name, photos, and stories of individuals targeted since 1988. The creator points out that a disproportionate number of those who are victimized identify as transgender. Don’t forget, Transgender Day of Remembrance is held annually on November 20th.

Some interesting data not on hate crime stats, but civil rights complaint stats. Highest #s for muslims in america were in Cali: http://www.infocusnews.net/content/view/26202/135/
