Examining The Beast

If you haven’t had a chance to check out The Daily Beast yet, you should. It’s a smart, snappy site, in terms of both its content and design. One of the coolest things, I’d say, is a feature the editors are calling the “Big Fat Story.” Each day, the site selects a big story of the day and presents it in a truly unique way. Instead of presenting it as an article or blog post, the editors present the main topic, and the links related to it, as more of an info-graphic. The format is much more visually pleasing and graphic heavy than a traditional post, and it allows the editors to point out connections that might be difficult to explain and to link to much more information in an easy-to-understand way. (For example, the editors can link to both primary documents, opinion pieces, campaign websites, and news articles related to the big story of the day without confusing the reader.) It’s hard to explain, so just go check it out yourself.
