And, No, Top Chef is Not an Adequate Replacement. Top Chef Sucks.

So, Project Runway. Obviously a great show. And I totally ran into Terri on the streets of Columbus last week! OMG! And my girlfriend bought a dress at Kelli’s store! Awesome!

Season five of Project Runway, no matter who makes it to Bryant Park, definitely belongs to Columbus. Unfortunately, impartial non-Columbites (I don’t know if that’s a real term) all acknowledge that season five has been a disaster. The challenges are blah and the contestants are an obvious step down from previous seasons. Bravo noticeably cut back on publicity leading up to the season and the network even went as far as to publish who would win and lose victories and eliminations, the spoileriest of spoilers, before the season even started.

I, and I don’t think I’m alone here, thought that Bravo’s blackballing of its most popular show occurred because season five was to be the last on Bravo. Next year, the show was to move from New York to Los Angeles and be aired on Lifetime.

If you check out my bio you’ll see that I write a blog which is dedicated to reviewing made-for-TV Lifetime movies. If anyone would be excited about the move to Lifetime, it would be me. But I was nonplussed by the move. Don’t get me wrong, Lifetime is fantastic. I just didn’t think it was a good match for the show.

So, I find it very interesting that CNN is reporting that a New York judge has blocked the move to Lifetime over an issue of a right of first refusal between Bravo and the show’s producers. This hurts Lifetime, which has planned its 2009 schedule around its shiny new acquisition, and it definitely hurts Bravo? Why?

BECAUSE THEY’VE SPENT THE LAST YEAR SABOTAGING THE BEST REALITY SHOW ON TELEVISION. ARRRGH.

Between Bravo’s treatment of its flagship program and Lifetime’s apparently extra-legal way of obtaining the show, the two networks have effectively cut their baby in half, leaving the viewer with nothing.

Bummer.
