Capitol Hill Twitter Fight Has Been Resolved In One Chamber
By L. Russell Allen - Sep 24th, 2008 at 2:28 pmLast July I posted about a feud between Representatives John Culberson (R-TX) and Michael Capuano (D-MA) over the former’s use of Twitter. Using third-party websites like YouTube and Twitter was actually against the rules of the House. Although no one wants people breaking House rules, something had to be done to get the House firmly into the Internet Age.
Well, the House is still biding its time.
But, voila , the Senate has taken action. Senators can now post pictures, videos, and Twitter messages (Tweets?), at their own discretion without interference.
This a great step forward for the Senate. These websites allow politicians to easily connect with their constituents, which leads to greater accountability and a greater understanding of how government works. Pretty laudable goals if you ask me.

Hopefully the House will follow suit. Congressmen like John Culberson are leading the way in making government more transparent and we need more like him, on both sides of the aisle.
