Battling for Early Voting in Ohio
By Kay Steiger - Sep 24th, 2008 at 6:09 pmOne of our own, L. Russell Allen, has an article over at Campus Progress about the Buckeye state’s efforts to correct alleged voter suppression that happened under former Republican Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell. The loophole he helped create but didn’t enforce is a contentious issue.
Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, a Democrat who was elected in 2006, is now enforcing a loophole in the legislation that had been disregarded in the past. The loophole allows Ohioans, who must live in the state 30 days before registering to vote, to go to the Ohio Board of Elections between Sept. 30 and Oct. 6 to register and vote absentee at the same time. This year, because of the registration window, voting will be easier for many voters who are at a higher risk of being disenfranchised: the urban poor, young voters, and voters of color. The Ohio Republican Party is citing the potential for voter fraud in its lawsuit. The issue has become a bit of a minefield for Brunner who campaigned on a platform of non-partisanship.

What a load of utter B.S.! No axe to grind here to push your point, also don’t let the facts get in the way of a perfectly good argument! Disenfranchised my ass!
