Favela Painting

Dutch artists Jeroen Koolhaas and Dre Urhahn have started a project titled “Favela Painting” where they work with local youth to create murals in the slums of Brazil.

The Portuguese word “Favela” refers to a slum or a shanty town. The areas which Koolhaas and Urhahn work are typically located on the outer perimeters of the cities and often lack essential services like garbage collection and electricity. These areas are also marked with extremely high crime and murder rates.

The artists are currently painting their second mural. Here’s a photo of their first finished mural and another one that’s the works:
