An Explosive Allegation
By Jesse Singal - Aug 5th, 2008 at 4:20 pmA new book by the author Ron Suskind claims that the White House ordered the CIA to forge a back-dated, handwritten letter from the head of Iraqi intelligence to Saddam Hussein.
Suskind writes in “The Way of the World,” to be published Tuesday, that the alleged forgery – adamantly denied by the White House – was designed to portray a false link between Hussein’s regime and al Qaeda as a justification for the Iraq war.
It goes without saying that, if proved conclusively, this would constitute one of the biggest scandals in presidential history. The fact that the centrist (or conservative, depending on whom you ask) Politico has this article on the front page of its website suggests Suskind’s claim will get its day in court, as it should. Suskind, a Pulitzer-winner who built his career reporting for The Wall Street Journal (and who more recently wrote The One Percent Doctrine), wouldn’t report something like this unless he believed it wholeheartedly.

So, Jesse, do you support impeachment hearings now?
